Magic Munro round: Spkye and John Clemens at the top of Ben Hope

Fell runner Stephen Pyke has broken the record for the fastest solo round of of all 283 Munros*. The epic bagger, known as Spyke, today completed the round in just 39 days and nine hours. He began the challenge on Ben More, Isle of Mull, and finished on Ben Hope, the most northerly Munro. And he ran, walked, cycled or kayaked between each Munro (with a campervan following him as back-up). This is an awesome achievement.

Spyke, of Stone in Staffordshire, has broken the previous record set in 2000 by Glasgow postman Charlie Campbell who completed a full round in 48 days and 12 hours.

The challenge was undertaken to raise awareness of the John Muir Trust, which owns and conserves seven Munros. A picture revealed on Twitter earlier in the day showed the celebration gift awaiting Spyke when he reached the summit of Ben Hope. Further pictures (courtesy of the John Muir Trust) show Spyke and his drive/coach/cook John Clemens celebrating on the top of Ben Hope.
