Ladies-only cycling holidays in Perthshire

Written by Fiona November 09 2010

Twitter pal and fellow outdoors fan @SkinnyTyres has announced the 2011 dates for Ladies Only  two day cycling breaks in gorgeous Perthshire. Skinny Tyres offer cycling holidays that are billed as being: “The closest an amateur cyclist will get to the feeling of being a professional”. I love this idea!

The aim of a cycle holiday or tour with Skinny Tyres is to give cyclists the opportunity to discover the wonders of cycling in a pro-style group (with full support) and/or to enhance their training potential in the run up to a big event, such as a long-distance sportive. The tours are aimed at a wide range of abilities, so don’t worry if you’re new to road biking.

@SkinnyTyres is in fact a cycling addict called Scot Tares who set up his company last year “purely for the love of cycling”. The cycle tours and breaks take place in beautiful Perthshire on wonderfully quiet and scenic roads. The company also offers a programme of cycle tours across Europe. Check out their holiday schedule for trips.

Recognising a gap in the market, Skinny Tyres are now offering Ladies Only cycle trips. As I’ve suggested before, many women enjoy outdoors activities in female-only groups where there is likely to be a greater chance of bonding and less testosterone-fuelled madness. Female only activities are not suited to all women but most who try a course, for example navigation, climbing or cycling, say that they really enjoy the atmosphere and bonding experience. I like cycling with both men and women and women-only. It depends on my mood but I definitely enjoy a girls-only outing on my bike, running or walking, especially for the chat!

Cycling takes you to great places: July in the Pyrenees!

So if you’re a woman who wants to learn more about cycling or discover places and roads that you’ve not cycled before you should check out the Ladies Only trips being offered by Skinny Tyres for 2011. The two day holidays look amazing. Included is a night in the fab Moness Hotel, Aberfeldy, two days of fantastic cycling (don’t worry about your ability as groups are organised to suit a range of paces) led by an experienced guide, a yoga session, massage and facial. There’s also a roadside maintenance session. Ideal!

The trips take place in July and September. I recommend you book up fast. I’ve noticed a growth in the numbers of women now out on their road bikes – so i expect these holidays will be popular. I might even see you there!
