  1. Hi Fiona

Having now finally looked at your website – have to say how great it is…enjoyed have a flick through and will try and have more of a read. Been following you on Twitter and just picked up this post. Giving someone gloves… my mate Trev gave over his lovely waterproof thermal ski gloves to a lad on Tryfan last Sunday. Snow everywhere and lots of hefting yourself up the rocks in a scrambling fashion. Not nice when it is a degree or so above freezing and the rocks have snow on them. Trev kindly lent Nick his lovely gloves as he could no longer feel his hands, (He hadn’t brought any gloves with him!), whilst he made do with his think liners… All made the summit popping out into glorious sunshine to warm our hands. Perfect!

thanks so much for the kind words re my blog. while my man has lent me his gloves on many occasions i was also lucky enough to have a kind instructor during the nav course at the weekend. he lent me two pairs of his gloves when mine didn’t manage the job. thankfully the guide had three pairs so he wasn’t without gloves but i bet his hands were freezing! these sort of things make you feel warm inside (and out)!

  3. Love is… the friend who puts your contact lenses in for you on a trek when you’ve forgotten a mirror…

…and the friend that takes off their ski gloves in order to extract chocolate for you while on a ski lift.

    Lovely blog Fi!

    Can I just add a couple more……

    Love/outdoors frienship is:
    – Walking on the windy side of you in gale force weather, holding you up and preventing catastrophic kite like action over cliffs
    – Seeing to your chocolate/food needs while walking
    – Roping you up and making you wear a helmet when it’s not entirely necessary
    – Finding you good kit
    – Looking you in the eye when your face is covered with frozen snot

I’ll save more for your next blog too!!

    – Knowing when a shout of “man up!” works and when it doesn’t
    – Getting sugar into after you bin it bad on the bike and start getting the shakes
    – Telling you that even without good prep going into a race that they believe you can still put in a good performance
    – Keeps you laughing through the pain even when you know they’re hurting just as bad

brilliant! i’m loving these. maybe i should do a blog series on these once every month or so. my partner (aka the G-Force) is chuffed as anything with the blog. he says that you don’t need to buy gifts to show your appreciation as words count for more. sweet!

    Outdoor love is –

    giving you some extra socks
    keeping windside of you
bringing out toilet roll when you REALLY need it
    passing round the chocolate
putting an arm around you, even though you’d never ask.
saying “Oh, we’d better wait up!” when you’re lagging behind.

    Loads of these… love them!

These are fab. I’ve really enjoyed this blog and the comments. It was a spontaneous idea but sometimes they can be the good ones!

  11. Love on the trail is..

    – Carrying someone’s rucksack as well as your own, even when you know it’s packed full of hair straighteners etc.

    – Surrendering your last piece of loo roll for someone truly in need.

    – Carrying your lady in your arms as you wade waist deep through a river crossing.

  12. Fiona says:

Inspired! But of course she’d have hair straighteners in there! Us outdoor girls might like being outdoors but many also think the world has been blessed by the invention of hair straighteners!
