Two outdoor events in August

Two more fab Scottish event shave come to my attention, so I thought I’d share them with all you outdoors competitors/maddies.

Monster Swim

First up in another addition to the growing stable of open water swimming events. On August 13, Loch ness will host the Monster Swim.

The Big Yin is a mile-long swim, while The Wee Nessie is half a mile.

Loch Ness is 22 miles long in total and 28o metres deep. It contains more water than all of the English and Welsh lakes combined. Loch Ness is also located in a stunningly beautiful place in the Scottish Highlands. Funds are being raised for Marie Curie Cancer Care.

Gallop and Grind Duathlon

If swimming isn’t your thing, then how about an event that combines running and cycling? The Gallop and Grind Duathlon takes place on August 27 in Scotland’s Outdoor Capital. The event includes a three-and-a-half-mile run, jog or walk followed by a nine-and-a-half-mile cycle (any combination counts!) on some of the most scenic trails and roads in Fort William.

This event is for:

  • Competitives: Those who like to compete, regular runners and mountain bikers. Expect to finish within 1hr 45mins.
  • Non-competitives: It’s not a race if you simply want to get out and take part and have a good chat on the way round. Expect to finish within 3hrs 45mins.
  • Walk-onlys: This is for people who want a leisurely walk/jog around the 3.5 mile route. Expect to finish within 2-3hrs.

Participants can also raise funds for Cancer Care in the Highlands.
