Climbing: The progression to obsession
I have blogged about the G-Force and his new climbing obsession. While he has always been a keen climber, since he compleated his Munro round there has been a definite shift towards a major obsession with the sport of hanging from ropes. Added to this the climbing obsession has been:
* Encouraged by a discounted month’s membership at Ratho Climbing Centre, which saw him climbing with friends two to three times a week.
* Egged on by friends who want him to get “climbing” fit so that he can partner them on “awesome winter climbing routes”.
* Boosted by books on climbing including several on Alpine climbing and many more on Scottish climbing, including a now much-thumbed copy of the new SMC climbing guide to The Cuiilin, Skye
* Made more realistic by trips to The Ice Factor, Kinlochleven for two-hour indoor ice climbing sessions.
* Talked about endlessly because of a very, very long debate about the Right Ice Axes To Buy (thanks to experienced climber Simon at Big Tree Campervans for your advice, too!)
And then this morning I walked into my living room to find this attached to the wall:
For those who don’t have a clue, it’s a Finger Board. It is where climbers hang in their own homes in a bid to increase hand and arm muscle strength.
It would seem that the G-Force’s progression to obsession is spilling over into the very interior space of my home!
