Scotland set for new walking trail
We love walking routes in Scotland – and now we’re about to launch another. I don’t think we can have enough walking trails and so I’m happy to see a new one being built. This new path, named the Firth o’ Clyde Rotary Trail, will link the Mull of Galloway, on the Ayrshire coast, with Milngavie, East Dunbartonshire, at the start of the West Highland Way. The Ayrshire’s Coastal Pathwill play a central part in the panoramic journey.
The trail is the brainchild of Rotary Clubs in Stranraer, Ayr, Gourock, Erskine, Clydebank and Allander to develop a long-distance walking route – and the path will form part of the Scottish chapter of the International Appalachian Trail, which is a chain of established long distance routes stretching from the south of Ireland through Scotland to Orkney and Shetland, and across to Norway.
The new walking route will also provide a designated route for walkers who want to trek the entire length of Scotland from its southern most tip at Mull of Galloway to its northernmost at Dunnet Head. It will also link up with the Southern Upland Way at Stranraer, to allow a similar traverse from the west to east coasts of Scotland.
Keep an eye on this blog and the Ayrshire Coastal Path website for further details about the opening of the route.
