Glasgow celebrates cycling. For a week!

Written by Fiona June 11 2010

As a cyclist who has had to negotiate the bonkers traffic, drivers and pedestrians in Glasgow for many years I welcome anything that celebrates cyclists in this city. There is not enough celebration of us people on two wheels. Instead there seems to be a collective loathing of people who try to keep fit, save the environment and lessen the clogging up of our roads. Ho hum.. I’ve ranted about this many time before…

In just over a week the Glasgow Cycling Festival gets underway with a week of events across the city. The festival runs from June 19 to 27 and welcomes anyone who rides a bike, whether fixed, free, geared, bi, tri or anything in between.

The Glasgow Cycling Festival is aiming to unite the numerous cycling groups and riders within Glasgow and Scotland, as well as attracting new people to ride bicycles. There will be a host of events including film screenings, rides, races, games, workshops, BBQs and parties.

There’s more about the cycle festival here and you can join the Glasgow Cycling Festival Facebook group for up-to-date info. Go on all you cyclists, it’s time to celebrate our mode of transport.
