Glasgow event: Arran in The Square
I’ve walked to the highest point, Goat Fell, several times. I’ve cycled around the island, and across it, and covered many miles of mountain bike routes. I’ve cycled a tandem there and held the record for the fastest trailquest (with an ex-partner) for some years. I’ve kayaked, ridden a horse, climbed and abseiled on the island, too.
Thanks in part to Arran Adventure Company, the island has become a fantastic destination for adventure activities. It also boasts a really friendly hospitality industry and, in particular, I’m a big fan of the Glenartney Guest House. The Glenartney is based in Brodick (the main town) and offers lovely accommodation for outdoorsy folk, as well as people with dogs. I’ve known the owners Robbie and Angela since the early days when they first bought the broken down Glenartney and I’ve watched as they have worked hard to build the guest house into a 3 star establishment, with added self-catering options.
So, why all this info about Arran? Well, an event called Arran in The Square is coming to Glasgow on the weekend of May 14/15. It looks like being a fun and informative event. It is part of Scotland’s Year of Food and Drink so many of Arran’s wonderful culinary products will be on display. Although I’m not sure I want more people visiting Arran (it might get spoiled?!) I don’t think it would be fair to hide this fab Scottish destination from you. There’s also a chance to win an all-expenses paid trip to the island every hour during the event.
