Triathlon training for kids in Glasgow
Triathlon is not just for gown-ups – it’s for kids, too. And due to popular demand (not just from parents who need a couple of hours to themselves at the weekend!), Glasgow Triathlon Club has launched a dedicated children’s training section.
Based at the new Maryhill Swimming Pool on Sundays, children can come along at 9am for a coached swim, then take part in a second session of “running, fun and fitness stuff”. This session is for children aged eight to 16, who can swim 50m front crawl. The session is free. Your parents do not have to be members of GTC, by the way! Triathlon is one of the fastest growing mass participation sports in the world, and is enjoyed at amateur and professional level. The Glasgow Triathlon Club has seen a rise in membership numbers and welcomes adults of all abilities and goals to come along to regular running, swimming and cycling sessions. First attendance is free, just to make sure you like the club and the people.
I’ve been a member of GTC for about six years. I love the mix of training across three disciplines, although I only take part in one or two races a year! The people at the club are warm, friendly and welcoming, the training sessions are excellent and the social gatherings are great fun. You do not need to be in great shape to start coming along – but within six months of so you’ll definitely feel the benefits! Why leave your get fit campaign until the new year?!
