Exciting news for the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup as it’s revealed that London 2012 Olympic Games torch will visit the event during its tour of the UK. The Olympic Torch will catch a glimpse of day one of the UK’s top mountain bike festival at the Nevis Range Ski Area near Fort William on Saturday June 9.
Mike Jardine, of event organisers Rare Management, said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming the world’s top mountain bikers and thousands of spectators to Fort William in June so it’s a great honour to be visited by such a wonderful icon of the London Olympics.
“It seems fitting that the torch will help celebrate one of the biggest and best sporting events in the Highlands, showcasing a great weekend of mountain biking, with riders from 35 nations and spectators from all over the UK.”

Today, I also noticed on Facebook that one of my favourite young GB skiers, the fab freestyle moguls skier Ellie Koyander, also has the honour of being an Olympic torch bearer.
See an interview I did with Ellie for Simply Piste website.
The Olympic torch is to go on a 70-day tour of the UK in the run-up to the London 2012 Games. It will arrive in Britain on May 18, 2012, before being carried the length of the country by 8,000 torch-bearers.
