Scottish Mountain Bike World Cup set to rock

Written by Fiona April 18 2012

This year’s Mountain Bike World Cup, held in Fort William, is set to rock to some of Scotland’s finest bands. Taking place from June 9-10, the annual downhill mountain biking extravaganza will also play host to King Creosote, The Phantom Band, Admiral Fallow, Stanley Odd, Bwani Junction and many more

Mike Jardine of event organisers Rare Management, said: “Fans will not only be able to experience the best Downhill and Four-Cross stage of the UCI Mountain Bike World Cup tour, but our enhanced spectator experience will create an incredible party atmosphere.

“With the greatest names from mountain biking attending, some of Scotland’s top live music acts performing and surrounded by the spectacular Nevis Range, this UCI Mountain Bike World Cup will be the best yet.”

The RockyRoads.net UCI Mountain Bike World Cup, presented by Shimano, is in its 11th year.

This is the only Scottish stage of the World Cup and has been voted the best mountain bike event in the world by the International Mountain Bike Trade Team Organisation (IMTTO) four times. The UCI teams have voted the event the best Downhill and Four-Cross World Cups a record-breaking six times.
Last year’s event was voted as one of the Top 20 trips of 2011 by National Geographic Traveller editors.

The Fort William cup is one of eight World Cup stages taking place across south Africa, Europe and North America, from April to September.

The two days of competition are a huge celebration of mountain biking and the World Cup Village creates a family friendly festival atmosphere with loads of activities and entertainment to keep everyone captivated the whole weekend. All the World Cup events will take place on or around the Nevis Range ski area and the Leanachan Forest, 9km from Fort William.
The RockyRoads.net UCI Mountain Bike World Cup is presented by Shimano and supported by EventScotland, VisitScotland, Highland Council, Forestry Commission Scotland and Nevis Range. The event is sponsored by Dare2b and Monster Energy.
