I’m dreaming of… winning an outdoorsy car

Written by Fiona December 09 2013

If you could choose a car to suit your outdoors life, what would it be? Perhaps you would shun a motorised vehicle entirely and go for a bike. If I didn’t need to carry lots of kit to enjoy such activities as camping and hill walking then I might choose a bike over a car.

Fat_Face_Land_Rover_GiftThen again, I sometimes fancy a fast and spirited sports car to take me to my chosen outdoors destination. I can see myself on a sunny day with the roof down and my hair blowing in the breeze as I race towards the Highlands with not a traffic queue or rain cloud in sight. I am fantasising here but you get the picture.

In reality, I know that a tiny sports car will not suit my need for lots of outdoor kit. I know, too, that I would keep the car tidy and clean for about two months before my untidy habits would begin to creep in. There is nothing worse than a messy and muddy dog paws splattered sports car!

So I then turn my thoughts to a campervan. A VW campervan would be my ultimate buy. I know I would make great use of the motorised home on four wheels but a good quality campervan is pricey and they can be expensive to run in terms of petrol, insurance and repairs.

Another serious consideration is a four-wheeled off-road style of car. I don’t know what the proper name is for this category but I am thinking wagons and Land Rovers. It would be fantastic to own a big box on sturdy wheels that boasts extra traction for going off-road or coping with snow. These vehicles have big boots and lots of space for carrying outdoors kit, dogs, bikes, snowboards, tents etc.

I have no doubt that a modern Land Rover is a good deal more comfortable than my basic Ford Focus estate – and I bet it comes with more souped-up –ness.

How to win a Land Rover Defender

The problem is that I don’t have a spare £20k or more so… that’s why I’ve entered the Fat Face Land Rover Defender competition. The Fat Face  #loveWINter campaign celebrates life outside the 9 to 5 and gives people the opportunity to win the Land Rover Defender and all the kit you need to enjoy the outdoors.

The prize is a Fat Face Land Rover Defender 110 XS station wagon with roof rack, roof tent and camping kit. Which is pretty much everything you could need for the ultimate winter adventure.

The competition closes on a couple of days on December 12, so hurry up and enter. See www.fatface.com/lovewinter. The winner will be announced on Christmas Day.
