I prefer to be outdoors, enjoying my many sports. But even when I am indoors I am writing or thinking about the outdoors! The last weekend is a good example.

On the Friday I cycled to a meeting in Glasgow to pick up a few fitness gadgets for an article about keeping fit outdoors.

The evening was spent at the Banff Mountain Film Festival, which took place indoors in Glasgow, but  featured a host of fantastic films about people enjoying the outdoors. Films included:

* 35: About a climber who celebrated his 35th birthday by climbing 35 routes and looking back at his great life

* Beyond the Drop: About kayakers doing amazing waterfall leaps in south Mexico

* Heaven’s Gate: Which wowed as wingsuited people attempted to fly through a rock arch known as Heaven’s Gate in Tianmen Mountain in China.

* Keeper of the Mountain: A fascinating documentary about Elizabeth Hawley who at the age of 90 is still the recognised person who updates records of climbs in The Himalayan Database.

* Supervention: A documentary on modern skiing and snowboarding.

* The Questions We Ask: Which followed adventurer Bruce Kirkby as he crossed the Pacific ocean from Vancouver to Victoria on a stand-up paddleboard.

On Saturday, I wrote a couple of outdoors blogs for clients and enjoyed an off-road run from Strathblane to the top of Dumgoyne hill and back again. Amazingly, the sun was shining. In the evening, I caught up with friends for dinner and squeezed in a few conversations about running and adventure.

Then on Sunday, I headed south to buy my new campervan. Although the journey was spent inside the new VW van  I dreamed of all the adventures I will have with the van in Scotland’s great outdoors.

Sunday is alos the day that my Sunday Mail It’s Great Outdoors column is published. The topic was ski mountaineering.

Whether indoors or outdoors, my mind is usually thinking “great outdoors”!
