Alpine Bikes is joining forces with Police Scotland to offer a free bike marking service this Sunday (June 21) as part of National Bike Week. The standard cost of this service is normally £16.99.
Bike owners can have their bikes permanently marked with a unique reference number that is then listed on the National Bike Register. A warning label is also applied to the bike to deter potential thieves.
The service will take place at St George’s Cross store at 6 St George’s Place between 10.30am and 3pm on Sunday.
Store manager Allan Doyle says: “We’re grateful to Police Scotland for offering bike marking as part of Alpine Bikes’ National Bike Week celebrations. We invite all bike owners to visit us on Sunday to take advantage of this fantastic service.
“It may not prevent the crime itself but will offer a far greater chance of a stolen bike being reunited with its owner when found.”
Sergeant Gerard Orr, of Police Scotland adds: “There’s been a significant increase in the amount of people out on their bikes and the impact of having one stolen can be devastating.
“If a bike is stolen our priority is getting it back to its rightful owner and bike marking is a great way of doing this. It can also act as a deterrent for would-be criminals if they see the warning label.”
