10 reasons to book a cycling holiday
If you enjoy cycling, why not take your bike with you on holiday? Here are 10 reasons why you should book a cycling tour trip.
The perfect pace: You’ll see the landscape and new places in a far more personal way travelling by bike. While walking is also a great way to journey, cycling is, in my opinion, the ideal pace for getting to new places but also really experiencing a new destination or country.
Keep fit as you holiday: How many times have you come back from a holiday to discover you have put on half a stone? If you choose to go on a cycling holiday you’ll come back fitter and possibly even lighter.
To tick off epic climbs: You’ll have seen the professional riders climbing big passes in the Alps or Pyrenees. Such names as the Col du Tourmalet, Alpe d’Huez, Col du Galibier, and Col du Télégraphe will be talked about among cycling groups and clubs. So, book a trip and tackle some of these fantastic cycling climbs. They will bring long-lasting memories.
Quality time with the family: If you choose the right destination to suit the ages and abilities of your family, a cycling holiday will prove to be an amazing and memorable time. Research also shows that families that spend time together being active outdoors are the ones that maintain good communication throughout their children’s lives.
To be guided: If you are nervous about cycling abroad or worry about navigation and safety, join a guided cycling tour. You’ll also have your food and accommodation sorted for you so all you need to do each day is enjoy the riding. Guided holidays are great for solo cyclists, as well as couples and groups of friends.
For freedom: Travelling by bike also brings a lot of freedom if that’s what you’re looking for. Get up each morning and decide where or how far you want to ride. It’s up to you if you ride five miles to a beach and relax for the rest of the day or take on a 100-mile journey through mountains to reach your next accommodation/overnight camping spot.
For romance: A cycling holiday is one of those trips that might make or break a relationship. But if it makes one then you’ll know you’re a couple that will enjoy many years of adventure and fun together. Just make sure you choose a cycling holiday to suit your combined aspirations rather than having one person struggling to keep up every day.
To ride coast to coast: There is something about a journey from one coast to the other. It offers a unique sense of achievement. For example, England has its famous C2C route. There’s also Scotland’s new Coast to Coast route. And how about choosing one of these Exodus Cycling Holidays, such as the Raid Pyrenean Coast to Coast or Costa Rica Coast to Coast? A holiday gives you time to embark on a multi-day coast to coast cycling holiday.
To explore off-road: Road cycling is a great way to enjoy a holiday but on a mountain bike you can explore more remote places. There’s a far greater up-close-and-personal experience to be enjoyed on off-road cycling holidays.
For the best tan lines: Cyclists wear their tan lines, at shorts hems and arm sleeve hems, with a great deal of pride. A cycling holiday somewhere warm will give you your own tan lines to be proud of!
