Kit review: Wee Cog bike saddle bag
How cute are these? The hand-made Wee Cog saddle bags for bikes are hand-made by designer Rebecca Hall from Peebles (my home town) in the Scottish Borders.
There are three different options for the saddle bags: Road, mountain and dropper post compatible. They fit all styles of bikes and have easy on-off Vecro fasteners.
The bags are made of water-repellent cordura or waxed cotton, which hose down easily if mucky.
I have the Wee Cog road saddle bag. There is the right amount of room for a spare inner tube, tyre levers, a small packet of instant repair patches and a small multi-tool.
I can fit in my iPhone 6 at a push but not with the multi-tool. Water rolls off the waxed outside of the bag but if you are carrying things that you do not want to get wet I would place them in a plastic bag first. The saddle bag is not sealed so some water could get in.
Basically there is just enough room for the basics and the bag is beautifully neat and tucked away under the back of the saddle.
The MTB bag is larger so as to accommodate a bigger inner tube.
It is the sort of bag that you would leave on the bike in the knowledge that you’ll always have a set of puncture repair items with you. (Just don’t forget to add your bike pump to your bike, too.)
Rebecca tells me: “I started my career in handbag design and recently took up road biking so I decided to combine the two and come up with the ultimate bike tool bag.
“I didn’t want to carry tools and inner tubes in my jersey and riding with a rucksack is not ideal, so I have designed a sleek design bag that sits neatly under the bike saddle without moving about, yet is big enough to hold an inner tube, tyre levers, patches and tools.
“It’s not a revolutionary idea because there are other saddle bags but mine are hand-made, neat and colourful. I am delighted by how sales are going already and I have had good feedback from customers.”
The Wee Cog bike saddle bags are £30.
Wee Cogs also sells hand-made phone cases (£22) and tool pocket bags (£25).
