Tips for golfers in the off-season
Golfing can be played all year round but there is an off-season – and that’s when you can make some great advances for the next season. Here’s a few tips for staying on top of your game, even in the off-season.
Plan a trip
The professionals don’t have to worry about off-season because they realise there is golfing to be enjoyed somewhere in the world at all times. Why not think like a professional and book a trip to a destination where golfing is still in season? You can book with your other golfing friends and make it memorable.
Consult with the experts
The off-season can be a great time to brush up on your skills. Look into taking lessons, consulting with a pro, watch tutorials/videos, pick up a book and do anything else that may help your game. The professionals certainly don’t put their clubs away for months on end and then expect to pick up where they left off, so you can use the same line of thinking.
Golf is one of those sports where no matter how many years you play, there are always slight changes and adjustments you can continue to make to improve your game. The off-season is a great opportunity to make those changes and see how they affect your swing.
Let’s take, for example, putting. There is no reason why you can’t set up your own little putting green in your house. All you need is a putting mat and a flat surface and you are ready to go. Some of these mats are pretty hi-tech and can even give you feedback on your putting. By the time the season starts up again, you’ll be able to give these changes a go on the actual course.
Find a golf simulator
If you want to get some serious feedback on your swing, stance, grip, etc., then you will want to find a golf simulator to give it a try. Not only will you be able to try out the different techniques you’ve been researching, it is also meant to feel as close to the real thing as possible.
Step outside the box
Sometimes the best activity is to step outside the box and find a new hobby all together. You can take up something such as online bingo, which is not only fun and challenging, but has been shown to encourage a person’s ability to focus and concentrate. These are of course very important skills in the game of golf. In a survey by Ladbrokes, it became obvious that the fact it can be played anytime and anywhere is acting as a huge draw.
Over before you know it
By taking part in these activities you’ll find yourself staying pleasantly busy and still connected to the game of golf. Before you know it, off-season will be done with and courses will be opening once again.
