Win one of 3 The Free Man DVDs

A powerful outdoors and adventure documentary film, The Free Man, which sees Olympic freestyle skier Jossi Wells take on the challenge of a lifetime, is released on DVD today and I have three copes to give away.

The DVD reveals how Jossi attempts to high-line the French Alps with performance artists, The Flying Frenchies.

You can watch the trailer here:

I have seen a streaming of the film and it’s spectacular both in terms of scenery and the thoughts it provokes about danger and thrill-seeking.

The Free Man, directed by Toa Fraser, offers an insight into the story of people who push themselves to the point of no return; people who literally stare into the abyss and who embrace the fact that any moment at the top of a peak or on the face of a cliff could be their last.

The Free Man also explores the subject of freedom, as defined as “the power of self-determination attributed to the will and the quality of being independent of fate or necessity”. In essence this looks at why people risk their lives in both physical and mental endeavour and whether this leads to feelings of true freedom.

It’s hard for me to fathom because I would never embark on the activity that we see in this film. Walking a rope high above the ground and with the risk of death is not something that motivates me but I can see that for some people it’s the ultimate concept of freedom and gratification.

How to win a DVD

You can buy the new DVD on-line or win one of three “The Free Man” DVDs that I have to give away. To be in with a chance of being picked, tell me in less than 10 words what ultimate outdoors freedom means to you. I will pick my favourite answers and ask the producers to send you a free DVD.

The closing date is April 30, 2017, and you should leave your comment on my Facebook or Twitter feeds.

Winners are:

David Gaffney: No pack, no deadlines, no gadgets. Just running in hills.

Stacey Wilcox: Walking and wildcamping with my family, being in the moment

Graham Kelly: When time and imagination permit endless horizon seeking.
