The inaugural Ochil Ultra took place at the weekend with some 215 runners participating in a 50-mile, 30-mile and relay race. The first places in the 50-mile ultra were won by Scott Bradley, from Edinburgh, and Jamie Aarons, of Carbeth, near Stirlingshire.
Remarkably Jamie was triumphant after being forced to pull out of the recent Tor des Geants race because of a medical emergency.
The event is the brainchild of by Ben Finch, of Keep it Simply Timing. I wrote about the launch of new Ochil Ultra.
The 50-mile event started at Stirling and finished at Perth with a traverse of the beautiful Ochil hills.
Ben said: “It was wonderful to see the race taking place on Saturday after all the hard work and planning. Watching the runners leave the start was quite emotional.
“The feedback on the day was superb and it was a delight to welcome every runner home and present them with their medal.”
Scott finished the 5-0-mile ultra in 8:17:19. Read Scott’s race report.
Jamie came home first for the ladies in 9:37:31 and was 11th overall. Read Jamie’s race report.
In second and third places for the men were Nicholas Wolverson and Antony Brown with Jo Newens taking second and Rebecca Beale taking third in the women’s event.
