Top accolade for The Scottish Bothy Bible

Written by Fiona

October 19 2017

It was great to see Geoff Allan’s book The Scottish Bothy Bible announced as winner of the Guide of the Year (book, online and app) in the Travel Media Awards 2017.

I have interviewed Geoff and written about his fantastic book, published by Wild Things Publishing, as well as “bothying” in Scotland.

The book took years of work and it is brilliant to see him rewarded by this superb accolade. After the awards Geoff told me: “I am pretty chuffed to be the winner.”

Another award went to someone else that I admire. Terry Abraham won Broadcast Programme of the Year with his beautiful film for BBC4, Life of a Mountain: A Year on Blencathra. On Facebook he said: “Woo hoo! I’m thrilled to reveal that my Blencathra film has won another award. This time for Broadcast Programme of the Year at the Travel Media Awards in London.”

Both Geoff and Terry beat stiff competition. The finalists in each category:

Guide of the Year finalists:

  • Icon Books – The 50 Greatest Wonders of the World by Aaron Millar
  • Bradt – Aple-Adria Trail by Rudolf Abraham
  • Bradt – Wild Times by Jini Reddy
  • Rough Guides – Argentina by Shafik Meghji, Sorrel Moseley-Williams, Madelaine Triebe and Stephen Keeling

Broadcast Programme of the Year finalists:

  • Life of a Mountain: A Year on Blencathra – Terry Abraham, BBC 4

The Travel Media Awards

The Travel Media Awards were launched in 2015 to recognise and reward excellence and achievement in travel writing, broadcasting and photography.

Entry is free and open to all travel publishers, writers, broadcasters and photographers. More than 50 judges, including senior travel industry figures,  travel editors and writers, makes for a unique and refreshing approach to identifying the very best of the UK travel media.

This year there were more than 700 entries from a wide range of titles, writers, broadcasters and photographers, including leading newspapers, consumer and trade titles and hundreds of travel writers.

The finalists of the Travel Media Awards 2017, in association with ENIT- Italian National Tourist Board, were  announced last night at a ceremony at ME London.
