Olympic snowboarding medallist Billy Morgan to discover Scotland’s snow
It’s great to hear that Winter Olympics bronze medallist Billy Morgan will visit Scotland’s snowsports areas this weekend.
Billy responded to an invitation to attend SnowFest 2018, Ski-Scotland’s snow fun festival. The timings of the festival have been tweaked to fit with Billy’s packed competition and training schedule.
Billy was reported as saying that Britain had done well, “despite being a nation that has no snow” after he won Team GB’s fifth medal at Pyeongchang.
Now the champion snowboarder is visiting Scotland on a whirlwind tour.
Ski-Scotland Chair, Andy Meldrum, said: “We are aiming that Billy will visit Glencoe Mountain café on Saturday evening for a Q&A session.
“He’ll then return on Sunday morning to have fun on the terrain park with our customers and some of Scotland’s young snowboard athletes.
“In the afternoon, he’ll be at Nevis Range to join one of the instructors in delivering a snowboard session for local youngsters.
“After that, he’ll lead the traditional SnowFest mass descent of the hill. We are also planning a short Q&A and autograph session in the Snow Goose restaurant at the gondola top station.”
Billy will be flying to Scotland from the Alps for SnowFest and returning to Switzerland immediately afterwards.
He said: “I am really looking forward to visiting a couple of Scotland’s mountain snowsports areas and riding their terrain parks with local kids and young Scottish athletes.”
Ski-Scotland’s current “staycation snowsports” campaign, coupled with the use of social media, aims to encourage people in Scotland’s Central Belt and the north, Midlands and south east of England to enjoy this winter’s abundant Scottish snow.
This has been made possible by a grant from the VisitScotland Growth Fund, as well as Ski-Scotland’s own funds.
Steve Duncan, VisitScotland Marketing Manager, added: “Welcoming Billy Morgan to this year’s Ski-Scotland SnowFest is an amazing opportunity to shine the spotlight on Scotland as a destination for snowsports.
“Not only does Scotland offer the best outdoor skiing and snowboarding in the UK, but the resorts are all easily accessible and boast some of Europe’s most breath-taking scenery.
“We are delighted to support Ski-Scotland’s exciting new campaign and we are sure that Billy Morgan’s arrival will help encourage snowsports enthusiasts to visit Scotland’s stunning mountain centres in the coming months and years.”
