Perhaps it’s the UK’s fantastic summer weather or a general trend, but Google is reporting the last-minute holiday searches are up 269% month on month.
Many people are leaving their holiday plans let in the day and some are even choosing a holiday and debating the next day.
There are also some interesting results from a new survey by online travel agency loveholidays.
The travel agency analysed the last-minute booking habits of thousands of British holidaymakers and discovered where people are choosing to go on holiday.
In Scotland, for example, Glaswegians are twice as likely to book an holiday to the Canary Islands than the national average. Meanwhile, America is the most popular choice for people from Edinburgh.
Spain is another top spot for Glaswegians, however they are less likely to be found in Morocco or Portugal and the wonderful food in Italy is not a strong pull for those from Edinburgh as they are six times less likely to go there than the national average.
I took a closer look at where Scottish people are booking last-minute.
Malta is top choice for Aberdonians
People from Aberdeen are more likely than the UK average to book a last minute holiday to Malta (278%) and Portugal (94%). Aberdeen is well ahead of the holidaymakers from Essex and County Down, placed second and third in the list of booking a trip to Malta.
Aberdonians are apparently less fussed about holidaying last minute in countries such as Cyprus, Croatia and Morocco.
Edinburgh’s off to America
People from Edinburgh are more likely than the UK average to book a last minute holiday to America (63%).
Glasgow loves The Canaries
People from Glasgow are more likely than the UK average to book a last minute holiday to the Canary Islands (94%), Spain (81%) and America (55%).
And so does Stirlingshire
People from Stirlingshire are more likely than the UK average to book a last minute holiday to the Canary Islands (52%).
It’s Malta for us, too
People from Perth & Kinross are more likely than the UK average to book a last minute holiday to Malta (109%) and Spain (52%) Canary Islands (52%).
Christian Armond, of loveholidays said: “There are still some great deals available for holidays this summer. This fun tool shows where people are booking from many of the UK’s cities and our easy to use website can help our customers find their perfect holiday by price, weather, board basis or budget rather than just location.”
