3 Steps to Building a Running Routine

Running is an inexpensive way to stay active and accessible to many people of all ages. It offers many proven benefits for both your mind and body. Not everyone is an accomplished runner already, but it’s never too late for you to get into the habit.

With these three easy steps, you’ll be well on your way to creating a regular running routine.

Carve Out Time For It

When you’re first starting to build this habit, you will probably find yourself making numerous excuses not to bother.  To counter this, aim to work blocks of time for it into your schedule in advance. It doesn’t matter if this time is in the morning or the evening, or even on your lunch break at work, what matters is that you are willing and able to devote it solely to running.

To find a bot of extra time in your busy life, you could get up a little earlier a couple of mornings each week or stop at a park for a run on your way home form work.

Since this time is reserved for the purpose of running, you will find it more difficult to skip it. Remind yourself why you want to run, so as to improve your health and well-being.

Meet with a friend to go running.

Find new motivations

Join a running group or meet a friend for a run. If you have a time and date set for a run with other people you are far more likely to go.

Another great motivator is to enter a race, such as a 5k or a 10k, and pledge to raise money for charity. If you tell people you are going to fund-raise by running there is less chance of giving up.

Reward Yourself Afterwards

Being active is hard work. In order to keep your motivation strong, you should make sure to treat yourself for following through with your plans. For best results, choose a reward that is not food-based.

A relaxing bath, a new movie or some fun games on a site like topcasinosites.co.uk can go a long way toward reinforcing the good habit you’re trying to form. If you can get yourself to start looking forward to your reward, you’ll find yourself becoming more eager to do what it takes to earn it.

Routines, especially fitness-related ones, don’t always come easily, but mere persistence goes a long way. As long as you put forth your best effort and keep working hard, you’re sure to succeed in making your regular running trips just another part of your daily life.
