Cycling UK has launched a search for Cyclist Café of the Year 2018. The national cycling charity wants to find the best cafe in Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

From serving energy-boosting bakes to providing a warm shelter after a downpour, a great café is a welcome break for all kinds of cyclists – and Cycling UK wants to honour the very best.

Cyclists are asked to recommend their favourite cafe in no more than 100 words by Friday September 21.

Nominations can be for a beloved local established or a once-visited but memorable holiday stop-off. If a café is welcoming to cyclists, Cycling UK wants to hear about it.

Many cyclists look forward to a stop at their favourite cafe for coffee and cake.

Matt Mallinder, Membership Director at Cycling UK, said: “Cake and cycling is a winning combination, and a well-timed café stop is an essential part of a day out on bikes. That’s why we’re excited to launch the Cyclist Café of the Year awards to give a boost to friendly and deserving establishments.

“Cycling UK wants to say thank you to those brilliant cafés out there that provide a place to leave bikes, don’t mind a bit of mud and are ready with a steaming cup of tea for any weary cyclist who wanders in.”

The winners will be selected by an independent panel of expert judges from around the UK, headed up by Cycling UK. The panel will be choose the winners based on the public submissions and their own extensive knowledge of what makes a tremendous cycling café.

Judging will take place at the end of September. The winners will be announced online and at Cycling UK’s Big Bike Celebration in Harrogate on Saturday October 6.

Prizes will then be sent out to the winners, and all shortlisted cafés will receive a window sticker.
