Corbett 36: Cam Chreag, Glen Lyon
After the big outing of six Munros summits in the Cairngorms, I fancied something a little less full on the next day. Cam Chreag, Innerwick in Glen Lyon looked like a great choice.
It is an eight-mile out-and-back route to reach the Corbett summit at 862m. This required a total ascent of 640m.
I campervanned overnight in Glen Lyon and met Ben the next morning at the start in a small car prk near the small settlement of Innnerwick.
Note: There is no internet or phone reception here, or, indeed. along most of Glen Lyon.
Walk of Cam Chreag, Glen Lyon
Cam Chreag is situated on the north side of Glen Lyon. The route is on a wide tracks for much of the way before heading uphill on and across rougher land. There are bits and pieces of hillside path but it is boggy and wet so the paths peter out.
It’s not a difficult route, nor a massive climb and I was surprised at how quickly we arrived at the top. There are two cairns, although the higher cairn is obvious in good weather. The views are lovely, especially along the valley and towards the Munro, Meall Ghaordaidh.
If you want a longer outing, the neighbouring Corbett of Beinn Dearg can be combined in one day.
We mostly followed the Walk Highlands route.
