Book review: Day Walks in Fort William & Glen Coe
I have been sent a copy of the book Day Walks in Fort William & Glencoe by Helen and Paul Webster. The book is published by Vertebrate Publishing priced £14.95. This is an area that I love and I have walked many routes.
There are 20 routes detailed in the book from 4.4 miles to 14.4 miles amd the routes are divided into four area sections: Glen Coe & Glen Etive; Kinlochleven & the Mamores; Fort William & the Great Glen; and The Road to the Isles.
The introduction section has all the information you would expect about safety, navigation and the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. There is also a useful list of Scottish name places, with Gaelic names and English translations.
Each area section has an overview description of what to expect, as well as the many delights and wonders of the landscape.
The walks themselves are clearly detailed and described. This is exactly what you would expect from Helen and Paul Webster, who are the founders of the acclaimed on-line resource, Walk Highlands.
There is a map and step by step route details for each walk. A wealth photos showcase the fabulous scenery of this region of Scotland, too.
It’s a great book to flick through and look at the photos, while also dreaming of where you will walk next. If you are planing a walking trip to the area, it is definitely a guidebook to take with you.
The book is a handy size and nicely “glossy”.
You can buy the book for £10.75 on Amazon. (Note: I receive a small commission for any sales that go through the Amazon link.)
