I’m still buzzing after doing that route last Saturday so it was nice to come across your description today. It really is a special ride with amazing scenary throughout and all those challenging climbs and descents.
The previous time I cycled the north part of the route was East to West after an over-night train journey from Porstmouth to Culrain. On that occasion I had my Condor Fratello with a triple fitted. Even then some of the hills are so steep that if I sat down my front wheel would come off the ground.
This time I was on my mountain bike but standing up on the pedals was out of the question as it just made the chain jump causing various minor injuries (ouch!). Time for a new transmission I think. Oh and some new brake pads.

It’s a fab ride isn’t it?! It’s one of the routes that makes Scotland by bike so amazing…
