London cycling infographic
Check out this interesting infographic on life in the London cycle lane by First Personal Injury. It reveals:
- 80% of London’s cycling accidents happen in daylight
- If just 14% of central London journeys were by made by bike, emissions would drop by a third.
Accident claims lawyers, First Personal Injury, have uncovered life in the London cycle lane with this infographic, which reveals facts about cycling in the UK capital. It shows the incredible rise of cycling, some of the staggering stats about its dangers, as well as an insight into the future of cycling in London.
On some main roads during the morning peak, 64% of vehicles are now bicycles, demonstrating the huge increase in popularity enjoyed by cycling since the advent of Boris bikes and the 2012 Olympics. Indeed, it’s revealed that 11 riders now cross Tower Bridge every single minute, and 500,000 Boris bikes hired out every month.
Unfortunately, with cyclist deaths making the headlines over the past few months, the infographic does show how dangerous cycling can be. Fourteen cyclists were killed on London’s roads in 2013, and almost one quarter of those killed and injured on their bikes are children.
But the future of London cycling is bright, as the infographic makes clear. With £1 billion of investment in cycling promised over the next 10 years, and ambitious plans for a London SkyCycle, a 220km elevated cycle highway, afoot, it seems that life in the cycle lane can only improve.
Michael Jefferies, CEO of First Personal Injury, said: “This research shows just how popular cycling in London now is, but also emphasises just how dangerous London roads can be for cyclists. The number of accidents involving cyclists is still too high, but at least the future looks brighter with more investment and better planning.”
