Sunday Mail: Walking with the great artist Peter Howson
What an article to write! I had heard a radio interview with Scottish artist Peter Howson on a drive north to walk a Munro. The G-Force and I were so intrigued by Howson’s transformation from depressed drug and drink addict to a smiling, happy, walk-across-Scotland charity fundraiser that we pulled up at a petrol station to listen to the end of the interview before filling up our car.
When I got home I made contact with the charity Scottish Autism and asked if I could join Glasgow-based Peter for part of his walk. It turned out that I could walk with him on the first day, from Aberdeen, and poignantly on World Austism Day. Peter has Asperger’s, while his daughter Lucie is autistic, so you can see the link for the 300-mile across Scotland charity walk.
Thanks also to the design, subbing and production team at the Sunday Mail for allowing me an extended deadline so that I could be the first to write about walking with Peter in the press. It was a tight turnaround – I had steam coming out of my fingertips as I typed up the article in an Aberdeen cafe after the walk! – but it’s good to get things published first.
I had an amazing time and here’s the article. Click on the pics to see the full pdfs.
