Sun-bleached Miami is Florida’s second largest city and one of America’s most popular vacation destinations as well as being a port for those heading to those magnificent Florida Keys. This is an exciting and diverse city that is home to more than enough attractions to keep adults and children entertained for weeks.
Boat trips across the Everglades, a diverse range of stunning beaches and some amazing theme parks are just a few of the activities available in this family-friendly city.
Natural attractions
A vacation provides families with the opportunity to spend some time in the fresh air enjoying the great outdoors. Miami is less than an hour from the Everglades National Park where you can take airboat trips to spot the gators and manatees or enjoy a few days camping in scenic wilderness.
Given that the weather is hot and sunny all year round in this state it should come as no surprise that the beaches are a major tourist draw. Head to Sunny Isles, Key Biscayne or the city’s famous South Beach to enjoy swimming and snorkelling, as well as watersports such as jet-skiing, surfing and boating.
Theme park city
Orlando is, of course, Florida’s theme park capital but there’s plenty of thrills and adventure available in Miami. Jungle Island is one of the most popular attractions and this interactive zoological park is home to a wealth of animal shows. Children can watch panthers, cougars, orangutans and kangaroos.
There’s also the chance to walk around a replica of the Everglades, as well as trip to the beach and floating aquapark known as Parrot Cove. Thrill-seekers who prefer roller-coaster rides and carnival games should head to Santa’s Enchanted Forest, which is open between October and January.
The Florida Keys
A vacation in Miami wouldn’t be complete without a boat trip to one of the beautiful Keys, such as Key West. Visitors can take glass-bottom boat cruises to view the marine life and coral reef before exploring the island itself.
The white-sand beaches and warm Caribbean waters are worth the trip alone but this island is also home to a nature preserve, a marine park and the free to enter Turtle Kraals Museum.
Fort Zachary Taylor State Park is well worth a visit to view the historic 1866 fort located at the southern end of a magnificent beach and this area is a popular spot for family picnics.
These are only a few of the many family attractions available in this fun-filled city. If you love a vacation that is all about getting outside and exploring then Miami is sure to delight.
