Most people enjoy a hot cup of coffee or tea while hiking outdoors, especially in winter. The new Primus TrailBreak EX vacuum bottle is aimed at outdoorsy people who want a durable and practical container for hot drinks.

Features include:

  • Double-walled stainless steel vacuum to keep drinks hot or cold for hours
  • Double-walled stainless steel cup to keep drinks hot when poured out
  • Silicone sleeve for easier gripping
  • Two stoppers – a regular stopper and a ClickClose stopper so you can drink straight from the flask
  • Wide mouth opening on the flask makes it easy to fill and to clean.
  • Two sizes:  0.75l (£35) and 1l (£40).
  • Four colours: Black, Tangerine, Barn Red or Moss.

On test: Primus TrailBreak EX vacuum bottle

There are many outdoorsy vacuum flasks on the market and there are some things I love about this one and some things I am not so keen on.

ClickClose stopper.

The ClickClose stopper is brilliant. It’s really good to be able to drink straight from the flask. So many times I forget to take the cup with me or I want to share my drink with another person and the Primus drinkable stoppable solution is excellent.

The silicon sleeve is also really useful. It makes it far easier than plain metal when handling the flask, even when wearing gloves.

The flask feels solid and non-breakable, which is very useful when out and about in the hills and mountains.

It keeps drinks hot for up to 20 hours, although I have never needed a drink to be kept hot for so long!

Easy pour.

The flask also looks great, especially in the tangerine colour.

However, I think the flask feels rather heavy. I do prefer lightweight kit because I do not enjoy carrying a heavy pack. I know that to have a more durable flask it needs to be solidly made but I own other flasks that are robust and lighter.

Two stoppers to choose from.

Also, I think the price is quite high. If you shop around on-line you can find the 0.75l version for around £27, which is much more attractive than RRP of £35.

Overall, this is a great flask with a lot to recommend.
