Demand is expected to be high as entries open to all four races in the 2017 Salomon Skyline Scotland series on Monday January 9.

The event on September 15, 16  and 17, 2017, includes the new Salomon Ben Nevis Ultra 110km race and is now the only Skyrunning event in the world to feature a race in each of the 2017 Skyrunner World Series disciplines.

The races include on a first come, first served basis (ie non-vetted):

  • Salomon Ring of Steall Skyrace – £80
  • Salomon Ben Nevis Ultra – £150
  • Salomon Mamores VK – £30

Vetted ballot entries to:

  • Salomon Glen Coe Skyline – £100.

It’s also expected that the Salomon Glen Coe Skyline will once again host the potential deciding race for the Sky EXTREME ranking athletes.

What is the Skyrunner World Series?

The Skyrunner World Series is the most prestigious mountain running series in the world taking place over three continents, with a €50,000 prize fund shared between the podium winners across each of the disciplines at the end of the season.

In addition, there will be a further €10,000 bonus pool for the overall male and female winners.

Of note, is that the Vertical Kilometre format races will no longer be a part of the Skyrunner World Series, but will instead conduct its own circuit for 2017, in which the Salomon Mamores VK will feature.

A look back at 2016

On Thursday September 15, 2016, the flagship race, the Salomon Glen Coe Skyline, featured in an hour-long episode of BBC Two Scotland’s The Adventure Show.

Presenters Dougie Vipond, Duncan McCallum, and Deziree Wilson took up positions around Glen Coe to capture the second edition of the race, bringing Skyrunning into the homes of millions of UK viewers.

This episode can still be watched on BBC iPlayer.

Be quick to enter in 2017

After the success of the inaugural Salomon Mamores VK and Salomon Ring of Steall Skyrace in 2016, it’s expected that both races will sell out quickly. Entries for both races on Friday September 15 will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Enter on Monday January 9.

The new Salomon Ben Nevis Ultra will start at 6am on Saturday September 16 from Fort Augustus. The route weaves through remote glens, crosses high mountain passes and embraces the wilderness of the Scottish Highlands.

The Salomon Glen Coe Skyline takes place on Sunday September 17, 2017.

Race Director Shane Ohly said: “The team at Ourea Events is excited to launch the 2017 event. After just two editions, Salomon Skyline Scotland has established itself as the world’s top weekend of Skyrunning.”
