The Merrell Moab FST collection includes both male and female walking shoes and boots. Little Miss Outdoors has been testing the Merrell Moab FST Mid GTX walking boots.

Little Miss is not so little anymore. She’s taller than me and has out grown all of her walking boots from her childhood. The Merrell Moab FST walking boots looked like a good choice for light walking on trails and some hills.

The Merrell Moab collection includes about five different styles including shoes and boots. The FST Mid GTX offer:

On test: Merrell Moab FST Mid GTX walking boots

Fit and comfort are vital. Many people ask me for recommendations for boot brands but the first thing to recommend is that you find a boot that fits well and feels immediately comfortable. LMO has a narrow foot and the Merrells fit her really well.

She said they felt comfortable as soon as she laced them up and that gave me confidence that she will not end up with rubs and sores on her feet.

LMO found the boots easy to lace up and, when I asked her, she said her feet did not slip about in the boots. You need to be sure that the heel is not lifting because if it is you’ll end up with blisters.

The boots are lightweight, which is perfect if you are going to be sticking to trails and doing hills, rather than winter mountains. The boot is for summer walking and some lower level in winter.

When LMO was testing them we had snow on the ground but she walked on trails and paths so the boots were fit for her purpose.

We both like the look of the boots. They look like trainers but with an ankle. If looks and weight matter to you, the Merrells will be a hit.

LMO took the boots for a few test walks on trails and walked through snow, mud, puddles, over rocks, up hills and through the wet. Her feet stayed dry and warm.

She found the boots offered great grip and they felt comfortable. She said: “They are like trainers really, except they are boots. It feels like I am wearing comfortable, lightweight and cushioned trainers but with some ankle support.

“There is nothing I don’t like about them. It’s great to find boots that fit my narrow feet and that keep them dry and comfortable when walking on muddy and snowy on the paths.”
