5 top places to stay for adventurers

Don’t just use your hotel as a base, make it a part of the journey. Here is a list of five amazing hotels that are perfect for adventurous travellers looking for something different.

Skylodge Adventure Suites, Peru

If you’ve always thought to yourself, “Oh, I’d love to be dozing off in a transparent glass pod dangling on the side of a mountain,” then you’re in luck. Found in the Sacred Valley of Cuzco, to stay in these adventure suites you will need to either climb 400 metres upwards or hike through a trail of ziplines – so this hotel is suited to those that live for adventure on their travels.

Hotel Leonwood, Germany

Europe’s largest log cabin, Hotel Leonwood.

Why not spend some time in Europe’s largest log cabin? Found between Brandenburg and Dresden, this hotel is a perfect retreat to explore the natural beauty that surrounds it. The wood just doesn’t belong on the outside either, you’ll find plenty of homestyle oak furniture dotted around the interiors.

Liberty Hotel, USA

The old jail rebranded as Liberty Hotel.

This ironically named hotel was formerly the Charles Street jail in Boston, Massachusetts. The old jail was falling to ruin and was seized by the Government in 1972 in an attempt to turn it around – and they succeeded. It still possesses many of the artefacts from its days as a penitentiary, including cell bars, yet the hotel is very sleek and stylish. While you’re there, why not check out all the adventures the city of Boston has to offer?

Das Park Hotel, Austria

Stay in a pipe at Das Park Hotel.

If you like your hotels a bit more no-frills than luxury, this will be the one for you. Situated in Ottensheim, you will get the pleasure of staying in a refurbished sewage pipe that has just enough space for a bed and a lamp. Although you will be staying in a former waste pipeline, there actually isn’t enough space for a toilet… luckily, they’re located nearby.

Mountain Cabin, Italy

Mountain high hut. Pic credit: Caters News Agency.

I have good news and bad news about this one. Good news: It’s completely free to stay in this cabin and it sleeps eight. Bad news: It’s located atop Italy’s Foronon Buinz mountain (that’s 8300ft) that you’ll have to scale it to get there. This mountaintop cabin was constructed by rescue volunteers in just the one day in honour of a fallen climber to give other mountaineers a safe haven to stay.
