For all the tourists heading this way, here’s a list of events that you shouldn’t miss in London (and don’t forget to book your London holiday apartments in advance!):
The much awaited Winter Wonderland is held annually in Hyde Park from 17th November to the 1st of January. The funfair/carnival makes a great day and night out for the entire family. It’s actually not bad for adults either, and can also make quite a cute date night. There’s a host of food stalls, various cosy bars and lots of rides ranging from the leisurely to the more thrilling.
If you’re a fan of ice skating or just keen to try it out for the first time, there’s no better spot than London at Christmas time. There are so many fantastic options for ice skating here that you’ll be spoilt for choice. Check out the impressive rink at the glorious Somerset House or take in the spectacular views of Henry VIII’s home at the Hampton Court Palace rink. You’ll also find ice skating rinks at the Tower of London, Natural History Museum and Canary Wharf, among others.
The festive atmosphere at one of the various Christmas markets is hard to beat. Again, you’ll find yourself spoilt for choice here. You’ll be able to find great Christmas markets at Winter Wonderland, Southbank Centre, Tate Modern, Greenwich, and Kingston. Christmas markets are great for enjoying delicious seasonal fare, indulging in some mulled wine and shopping for Christmassy trinkets. They do tend attract a lot of tourists from around the UK to the city, so make sure you book your London holiday apartments in advance.
What’s Christmas without a bit of panic gift shopping in the week before? And there’s no better spot for it than Oxford Street. Among the flurry of harried last-minute shoppers, you’ll be able to stop for a Christmassy hot drink in one of the many coffee shops. You’ll also be able to enjoy the sight of the twinkling Christmas lights over the famous street, and the general festive vibes.
