The Glasgow Subway Run – aka The Subrun

Written by Fiona

December 17 2017

I enjoyed a superb run of 17km between each of the 15 Glasgow Subway stations.

The Glasgow Subway – also known as the Clockwork Orange – provides an underground transport system. It was opened on December 14, 1896, and is the third oldest underground metro system in the world, after the London Underground and the Budapest Metro. It runs clockwise on the Outer Circle and anti-clockwise on the Inner Circle.

This weekend, I joined friends from the Glasgow Triathlon Club on a run (on foot!) to visit each of the stations. The total distance was 17km as seen on this map.

It was a great way to see the city and we enjoyed the smiles of the general people, many going about their Christmas shopping,  as we ran by.

We stopped at every Glasgow Subway station for a photograph. We tried different poses and emotions at every station. Some worked and some didn’t! But we had a lot of fun trying.

St Enoch.

Big jumps at Bridge Street.

West Street.

Pensive, thoughtful or just a little strange? At Shields Road.

Swimming at Kinning Park.

Cycling at Cessnock.

Thoughtful at Ibrox.

Group hug at Govan.

Run through the Clyde Tunnel.

Running under the Clyde.

A sit down at Partick.

All smiles at Kelvinhall.

Extra arty photo.

Hats up at Hillhead.

Hats on their way down.

Hats pick up.

More urban art.

Tired faces at Kelvinbridge.

Back at the start.

The beauty of the Subrun is you can jump on a train at any station you fancy if you become tired. None of us did and instead we all enjoyed a coffee at Surface+ cafe after the finish back at St George’s Cross.

Thanks to everyone for the great chat and fab running.
