The newly sponsored West Highland Way Race has announced a cash prize of £1500 for any runner who sets a new record time.
As entries opened for the Altra West Highland Way Race 2020 on November 1, organisers also revealed the new cash prize. The times to beat are 17 hours 16 minutes and 20 seconds set by Lucy Colquhoun in 2007 and 13 hours 41 minutes 08 seconds set by Rob Sinclair in 2017.
The ever-popular 95-mile WHW race, between Milngavie, north of Glasgow, and Fort William in the Scottish Highlands, takes place on June 20/21.
The new title sponsor is Altra, the footwear company, which replaces title sponsor Ronhill, which will still be involved as a supporting partner.
Entries to the event will be open throughout November 2019. There is a maximum of 300 places which will be allotted based on a ballot system.

Race welcome for Altra
Race Director Ian Beattie said: “We are delighted to welcome the Altra brand on board as the race’s title sponsor. I know that many of the Scottish ultra running community are big fans of Altra’s trail running shoes.
“Ron Hill have been involved with the West Highland Way Race for many years and during this period have been an excellent and very supportive partner. It is great that this will continue, too.”
Matt Bond from Outdoor Sports Company, which distribute Altra and Ronhill in the UK, has welcomed the new arrangement. He said: “In what will be the 35th year since the birth of The West Highland Way Race, we are delighted to continue our support of this iconic race.
“Altra footwear has its roots firmly embedded in the world of long-distance trail running and it is with great excitement that we announce this partnership with one of the world’s longest established ultra-marathons.”
The race also receives support from Run and Become, Glencairn Crystal and Lindsays Solicitors.
