America has many charming and romantic places to visit, especially if you are a couple looking for somewhere to celebrate a birthday, anniversary or a honeymoon. Here are five romantic destinations in the US.
Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls is an incredibly atmospheric and it can also be very romantic if you book into one of the top end Niagara Falls hotels as well. Cosy up together in plastic ponchos on the boat trip, dine in the revolving restaurant at the top of the 236m Skylon Tower and snuggle up in one of the gondolas on the SkyWheel. The city of Niagara Falls has some wonderfully intimate bars and bistros and if you are a pair of thrill seekers then a trip down the zipline together will tick more boxes.
Boston Massachusetts
Generally considered to be the cosiest city in the US, and with a European vibe, Boston is an absolute delight. Whether you have a romantic picnic for two on Boston Common or wander hand in hand around historical Beacon Hill, you will make some very special memories in Boston. We don’t quite know how a city of some 700,000 inhabitants manages to feel so quiet and intimate, but Boston pulls it off with style.
Providence, Rhode Island
A visit to quirky and quaint Providence really is something else. Best known as a historic collegiate town, it also boasts a burgeoning restaurant scene, excellent museums and stunning architecture.
The best time to visit Providence is during the summer when the town comes alive with it’s WaterFire festival. On certain weekends during the summer months, 80 coal pits in three downtown rivers are lit, and the result is truly spectacular. A wonderful art festival runs concurrently and wandering round the town soaking up the atmosphere or taking a trip down the river taking in the bonfires is very romantic.
Skagway, Alaska
If your idea of the perfect romantic getaway is rubbing shoulders with nature and embracing the great outdoors, Skagway, Alaska is the place for you. The false fronts along Main Street are remnants from the Gold Rush era and that, combined with the breathtaking surroundings, will make you fall in love with this enchanting town.
New York City
Yes, really! If you know where to go, one of the biggest, noisiest cities in the world can also be one of the most romantic. Horse and carriage rides through Central Park, intimate jazz clubs in Greenwich village, the City Lights helicopter ride at night, the list goes on and on. If you are with the right person, even the most crowded of tourist hotspots can be romantic, and the Big Apple just keeps on giving.
