Thinking of starting a travel blog? Here’s what you need to know

I know what you’re thinking. There are a lot of travel blogs out there. But truth be told, not all of them are that great. Travelling the world and visiting plenty of countries, continents and taking some cool photos along the way, doesn’t guarantee a first-class travel blog. 

To be a successful travel blogger, you need to offer an opinion, advice and even provide the ups and downs of travelling that all potential travellers should know.

Things to think about include developing your voice and discovering the right travelling niche. For example, blogging about skiing could be a good path to success, or how about charting the good and bad of campervan and motorhome trips?

So, what else do you need to know about starting a travel blog? Read on for some simple tips to get you started.

Know how to produce high-quality content

If your content sucks, then the internet will certainly let you know. You won’t get any followers or engagement and you’ll lose all motivation – fast. Therefore, brushing up on your writing skills and producing high-quality content is a must.

You’re going to need to develop a thick skin and be prepared for criticism, both constructive and unnecessary. Try not to take anything personally and instead remain focused and driven.

It’s going to be hard work

Despite what you might think of influencers and bloggers, running and maintaining a blog is incredibly hard work. Not only do you have to engage in a digital marketing strategy and get your blog out there, but you’ll need regular, fresh and unique blog content that will keep your readers coming back for more.

You will also need to spend a lot of time in front of your computer, so working on those time-management skills and figuring out a plan is probably a good idea.

It won’t be an overnight success

A successful blog with a strong following takes time. A lot of time. It’s for this reason that most budding bloggers give up within the first six months. Be patient and keep at it!
