Written by Fiona

It is about time that the world knew about Laos. It is one of the least visited countries globally but happens to be one of the prettiest in South East Asia.  It is a real shame that this country does not share as much hype as other in the world, but we are going to make sure we change that.

Do you need an e-Visa to travel to Laos?

Before your trip to Laos, you need to get the necessary information for Laos e-Visa.

The Laos government offers one electronic entry permit type, and that is a single-entry visa for a 30-day stay. Apply online for the obligatory e-Visa to visit this country.

Top Laos places to visit

Let’s look at some of the top attractions in Laos so that it makes you want to give it a visit this year.

Vientiane

Vientiane is the first city you need to visit. Even though it looks like a small town, it happens to be the capital city of Laos. Back in the day, Vientiane served as the French trading post, therefore, do not be surprised if you see a lot of French influence here.

As you explore the city, you will come across much French-influenced architecture, such as the Arc de Triomphe, which is actually the Laotian version. Furthermore, you can also explore the local markets and famous temples like Wat Si Saket.

Luang Prabang

Luan Prabang is a city that is known to offer serenity to Laos. It is a town situated on the Mekong river. While visiting Luang Prabang, you will come across many European style cafes located at the scenic river banks.

The area tends to be so picturesque that UNESCO has declared it a World Heritage Site. Moreover, if trekking is your thing, you can visit the Kuang Si Waterfalls, known for their deep pools, once you are done exploring the gorgeous temples.

Vang Vieng

Back in the day, Vang Vieng carried a reputation for hosting a wild nightlife scene, but its image is a lot better today thanks to the government. It is located in the middle of Vientiane and Luang Prabang.

A significant reason behind visiting Vang Vieng is to experience and enjoy the Nam Song River tubing while offering your eyes the splendid jungle scenery

Huay Xai

Huay Xai is a city that is located on the border existing between Laos and Thailand. As a result, it experiences a lot of traffic as people cross the border to visit one country to another.

Huay Xai is also known and famous for its Mekong River, which requires a boat from Huay Xai to Luang Prabang, making it the highlight of the trip for many visitors.

Si Phan Don Islands

A surprising thing about Laos is that it does not consist of a coastline, although it is home to the Si Phan Don Islands, meaning ‘Four Thousand Islands’ in Lao.

The islands are a result of the Mekong River dispersing as it closes to the border between Laos and Cambodia. You will find islands of different sizes here, along with several accommodation options as well.

Final words: Laos might not appeal to many out there, but it sure will to you once you visit the places mentioned above.  It is one of the countries you do not hear about often but discover a completely different world upon visiting!
