Importance of car and tyre care for a pleasant drive

A drive in the countryside on a sunny day can be very satisfying, especially if you are surrounded by great scenery.

But sometimes things go wrong

Having car trouble is a nuisance at any time but during a pleasure drive just makes it so much worse. These disruptions can take the form of anything from a punctured tyre to engine failure and back to something as mundane – and embarrassing – as running out of fuel.

The good news is that most of them can be avoided by having your car serviced as regularly as the owner’s manual advises you to, and personally checking your fuel, oil and water levels before every drive as well as keeping a close eye on your tyres.

In between service checks what you should be doing

After your mechanic has given your car the all-clear, you might be tempted to ignore the small housekeeping tasks that will keep you running smoothly until the next service.

Do try to resist this impulse as running out of oil can cause your engine to seize, which is a horribly expensive event. Running out of water can make your car overheat and fail; and running out of fuel is easily remedied… As long as you are within comfortable walking distance of a garage, have a can with you and can leave the car somewhere safe.

Keep an eye on your tyres

Your tyres are the point of contact between the road and your car, and as such they should always be in the best possible condition. If you drive a lot, they should be looked at weekly. Less frequent commuters can get away with fortnightly checks during which you check your tyres for weaknesses and signs of damage that could rapidly worsen. If you do spot any issues, you should replace them promptly.

Before you head out for a trip you can visit a local garage for helping you out. For example if you live in Wickford, you can visit a local tyre shop to troubleshoot your problems. One good recommendation is to get tyres in Wickford by booking them from Jet Wheel Tyre.

If you do your small maintenance tasks regularly, you will be able to enjoy your leisure drives with even more enjoyment, having peace of mind that your vehicle is in the best possible shape.
