Fantastic cycling – and the marvels of technology

Written by Fiona March 07 2011

Reassembling my shiny new bike at Club La Santa. I was doing so well until the Torque wrench episode! (That's for another blog!)

One of my Lanzarote Tri Club cycling friends The Irrepressible Rampage is a step ahead of me on the technology front. While I own a fab Garmin GPS 310XT I haven’t read all the instructions so I am not sure how to download tracked routes. However, The Rampage does – and has.

I am already having major withdrawal symptoms after a fantastic week at Club la Santa with the Glasgow Triathlon Club. Not only is it cold and overcast back home, but the roads are just as bad and pot-holed as ever. In Lanazarote they seem to take huge pride in their roads and I only spotted a couple of pot-holes during the whole week and one short stretch of bumpy tarmac. The rest of the roads were oh-so-smooth and relatively free of traffic.

Cycling in Lanzarote does involve a great deal of ascending and the wind can be harsh but the smooth roads and sunshine more than make up for these drawbacks. In any case, after a week of major ascents and strong headwinds, Scotland’s terrain and wind actually seem pretty easy going!

Anyway, the reason for this blog is to add a few links from The Rampage’s Garmin. Here are a few of the cycle rides that I enjoyed.

Legs 11 (aka Craig) has already reached the top of Femes hill climb. I'm in the background about to overtake the Ginger Prince. Result!
