With a unique claim to fame, the Loch Lomond Highland Games Triathlon is reckoned to be the  world’s only triathlon to be held at a Highland Games.

Certainly, the event sounds like a great day out. Competitors can expect a 600m open water swim in Loch Lomond (don’t forget your wetsuit!), followed by a 12.8km mountain bike ride, then a 3km run through beautiful Balloch Castle Country Park. The home straight heads via the Highland Games Arena.

This is an ideal race for novice open water swimmers as the water is shallow. The triathlon at Lomond Highland Games starts at 10 am with a ceremonial rendition of Loch Lomond.

Club secretary and one of the founders of the triathlon club is Robert McCulloch. He says: “Triathlon is a fast growing sport and it’s great to see so many people coming along to our training sessions. We fully expect our new triathlon to sell out and so we’re keen to encourage as many people as possible to enter as soon as they can.”

He adds: “Triathlon is such a great sport for keeping you all-round fit and our club is very friendly and sociable.”
