I’m not sure whether I’d ever considered matching a watch with a skiing holiday, but, when you come to think about it, it’s not such a bad idea. I’ve a watch for daily wear (Tag, if you must know, and bought as a gift by my generous partner!), another watch for telling me distance, speed and heart-rate while doing sports (Garmin, and bought as a gift to myself!). Other people have watches for walking up hills, running, cycling, swimming and going out somewhere posh.

So a guest blog about watches to wear while skiing doesn’t seem like such a bonkers idea anymore. Anyway, here’s what my guest blogger had to say!

Of course, not all skiing watches need to be rugged. Some can look as delicate as a beautiful flower and be embedded in diamonds, as long as they serve a practical skiing purpose. GC’s Diver Chic ,for example, comprises a ceramic bracelet and boasts a glamorous diamond set bezel. However, the watch is a lot more robust than it looks and would make a great watch for on-slope and off-slope activity. It is pricier, though, at £450.

Suunto

Many skiers like to know their height – and whereabouts. A Suunto watch will tick these boxes. The Suunto range is highly robust and comes with features such as an altimeter, compass and GPS. Prices start from around £130 and go up as you add features.

Another clever Suunto

Sometimes you might want to know just how steep a slope is while skiing. This is when you need a “clinometer”. One clever watch includes this in its features list. The Suunto S6 tells you your runs, vertical and ground speed, and includes a clinometer and compass. You can also download all your skiing info to your computer when you get home!
