Gore-Tex launch new Experience Tour competition

Written by Fiona November 29 2012

GORE-TEX® have been busy planning another of their amazing Experience Tours. These tours offer normal people the chance to go experience extraordinary adventures in the outdoors. The next Experience Tour will head to the beautiful Snowdonia National Park in North Wales.  Leading the winners on this expedition will be mountain guides from the National Mountain Centre at Plas y Brenin.

The GORE-TEX® Fourteen Peaks Challenge is a new project that will take a group of outdoors fans to the highest heights of Wales.  The challenge is known locally as the Three Thousands because it takes in all of the 3000ft-plus peaks in the area.  This is a great opportunity to learn from local mountain guides not only about how best to tackle some of Snowdonia’s classic ridge walks, but also about the nature and the local environment.

Anna McNamara, of W. L. Gore, says: “If you are an outdoors fan who enjoys hill walking, but you’re looking for a challenge that will push you one step further, this is the ideal project for you.

“The chosen candidates will already be passionate about the outdoors, but eager to learn new skills. They will also get to experience the benefits of GORE-TEX® product technology while enjoying some of the most stunning scenery in the UK.”

The first day of the challenge will be dedicated to practising the skills needed to tackle the bigger peaks, including scrambling.  The four hill days will take in several famous routes including the Snowdon Horseshoe, the Carneddau Ridge, Tryfan and the Glyders.

If you enjoy walking and are looking for a challenge that will take you to the next level, then this is definitely for you.

Martin Chester, Director of Training at Plas y Brenin and one of the panel of judges explains more about the criteria he will be looking for when choosing the winners: “The GORE-TEX® Experience Tour Fourteen Peaks challenge offers some breathtaking views from the top of the National Park’s highest mountains. If you are passionate about the great outdoors you will certainly enjoy this, but it is a physically demanding, week-long challenge so anyone applying will need to be reasonably fit.”

To enter the Gore-Tex Experience Tour competition

Entries open on November 19th. We are looking for people who want to learn more about the great outdoors and take their hill walking experience to the next level. Tell Gore-Tex why you should be chosen to join their experts on this unique tour.

The selection of the final candidates will be made by the votes on their website. The jury’s decision and the opinion of the experts is final.

Applications open from November 19, 2012, to January 4, 2013.  You can vote for your favourite candidates from the 4th – 11th January, after which time the panel will look at all of the entries and choose its winners.  Winners will be notified in the week of January 21 and must be free from March 17 to 23, 2013, for the challenge.
