Three top skiing destinations in France
France remains a favourite destination for many skiers and snowboarders and it’s no wonder with the Alps offering such a huge variety of resorts. My guest writer reveals her three top French ski resorts.
Val d’Isère
A resort that attracts British skiers and snowboarders in particular. It’s perfect for the intermediate to advanced, with the latter being given the option of skiing on challenging terrain, both on and off piste. The resort is unique in its ability to offer this variety of terrain, hence why it has become a world-class skiing destination.
Val d’Isère and nearby Tignes share the giant Espace Killy ski area, spread across a high, remote valley. Val d’Isère has the central hub of Solaise with lifts to La Daille, Le Laisinant and Le Fornet, which are quieter areas.

St Martin-de-Belleville
Located in the ever popular Trois Vallées ski area, this resort makes the list of top destinations to ski in France due to its charm. It is pretty and quiet, showcasing attractive villages alongside its ample areas to ski.
St Martin-de-Belleville isn’t for the party-goer. Rather, it’s for those who appreciate the natural beauty and sleepy atmosphere of French villages. You’ll find old farmhouses and a 17th century church.
Alongside skiing the 1400m resort, make the effort to see the Belleville and Les Allues valleys, as well as Méribel, Les Menuires and the rest of the Trois Vallées.
Meribel
If you like to add partying to your skiing holiday, then Méribel is the place to go. It attracts thousands of international visitors who join in the on-mountain après experience La Folie Douce, starting from mid-afternoon, before heading to The Rond Pond further above the main village. The late-night clubbing action takes place at Dick’s Tea Bar or Le Loft.
Of course, you’ll want to indulge in some skiing on your skiing holiday in France. Méribel gives access to the Trois Vallées ski area, as well as boasting 1400m-1700m of resort and 1260m-3230m of slopes.
