Tiso lecture: Alpinist Kenton Cool

Written by Fiona November 19 2014

I sent the G-Force along to hear the Tiso lecture by Kenton Cool. If you don’t know, Kenton is a leading mountaineer, alpinist and internationally renowned mountain guide. He is one of Britain’s top alpine climbers and he has successfully climbed Mount Everest 11 times, including leading Sir Ranulph Fiennes’ 2008 and 2009 Expeditions.

As part of Tiso’s series of lectures, Kenton was invited to talk about his Everest Triple Crown adventure. In the spring of 2013, Kenton defied what many thought was impossible. In just seven days Kenton enchained the three mountains that make up the Everest Horseshoe, Nuptse, Lhotse and Everest.

This journey of discovery pushed him to the limits of his physical and mental well-being. The illustrated lecture told not only Kenton’s compelling story but also of his personal learning and reflections.

The G-force was impressed by Kenton. He said: “I knew of Kenton’s amazing trips but I didn’t know what to expect of him personally. It turns out he is a nice guy. He is modest, funny and also very real.

“He gave a fascinating and sometimes comical talk about the Everest Triple Crown and I was enthralled by his story. It is amazing to think what he achieved and how he pulled off a world first.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the talk and the photos and I’d recommend that others go to see a Tiso lecture.”

The G-force attended the Tiso Glasgow Outdoor Experience lecture on Nov 12.  Next up in the Tiso Lecture series is White Magic: Safety in Winter with Heather Morning

Heather has been a professional mountaineer for 25 years and for the last 12 years she has been an active member of the Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team.

Her lectures will focus on essential skills for folk heading out into the Scottish winter mountains covering navigation, avalanche awareness, route choice, equipment, weather and much more.

The free lectures start at 7.30pm at Tiso Inverness Outdoor Experience, Inverness, on Nov 25 and Tiso Perth Outdoor Experience, Perth, on Nov 27, 2014.
