It’s one of those must-own items for cyclists and runners: A cycling or running jacket that is light and small enough to stuff into a pocket yet also practical enough to work as a weather beater.
The Mac in a Sac Active Lite cycling and running jacket is the very thing. It is made from Vaporlite, which is a lightweight and breathable fabric.
The fabric is soft and silky and does rustle a bit when the wind gets on it but it feels nice and light to wear.
When running in poor weather the jacket kept out the wind and did a good job of light rain. The water droplets simply rolled off the treated fabric.
This is not the sort of jacket to wear in torrential rain as the water soaks through fairly quickly. It is meant as an emergency solution when you are caught out in the rain while running or on your bike. The fabric is highly breathable.
Other features include an integrated hood that folds away into the neck, a pocket large enough to fit a map and an emergency whistle. The whistle is located on the buckle of the elastic carrying handle that you will find when turning the jacket in on itself and into its own pocket.
I imagine the whistle is for hill runners, rather than cyclists, and to be honest I have never used one (not even when hill walking). (You find whistles as standard on most rucksacks these days.)
The jackets come in three bright colours, with extra reflective piping, and in male and female fits. They also have a two-year guarantee.
If you plan to buy a female version I recommend buying a size smaller than normal. The Small is meant to be for UK12 but I think it fits more like a UK14.
The packed away jacket is around the size of my hand.
Turning the jacket into a pocket is easy. Zipping it up can be tricky if you get the fabric caught in the zip. With care this is avoided but you do need to be paying attention! The elastic band with clip (and whistle) can be worn around your waist.
