Half-term fun at Scottish ski resorts

Written by Fiona

February 11 2015

Scotland’s five ski resorts are predicting some great conditions for the next week or so. And with many kids still off school on their half-term break, it could be a good time to enjoy a family skiing trip to CairnGorm Mountain, Glencoe Mountain, Glenshee, The Lecht or Nevis Range.

According to the chair of Ski-Scotland, Heather Negus, conditions for skiing are positive with “some good overhead weather and perhaps even some bluebird days”.

Already the Highland snowsports resorts have welcomed more skiers and snowboarders than at the same point last season – and they expect to be busy over the remainder of half term period.

Jump the queues at Scottish ski resorts

If you are planning a trip to one of the five ski resorts in Scotland, Heather advises that you plan ahead.

She says: “You can effectively queue jump by reserving equipment online, buying tickets online or even just by having cash available on the day to take advantage of fast-serve ‘cash only’ ticket windows.

“It’s also recommended to book lessons well ahead – some snowsports schools only have a few places left in some classes – and to leave home early to arrive early.

“Better still, book accommodation nearby so you can be among the first on the slopes.”

Did you know?

Scotland has a sixth “mini” ski resort in the Lowther Hills in the south. The Lowther Hills Ski Club  was founded in 1986 and offers a small area of skiing close to some of Scotland’s highest villages. The snow has disappeared for the time being but there are hopes of fresh snow before the season is out.
