ProjectScotland, the charity which helps young people to get on in life through volunteering, is launching an extreme sporting challenge called UNBREAKABLE.

UNBREAKABLE will see 50 fundraisers embark on a tough test of physical and mental endurance as they cycle, swim, sail, kayak and hike across Scotland over eight days, from August 2 to 9.

Participants will travel through iconic Scottish locations from Edinburgh and Fort William, to Glencoe and Aberfoyle, covering a 940km journey.

They will be expected to: Swim 3km, sail for 2hrs, hike 8km, kayak 25km and cycle 940km.

Paul Reddish, CEO of ProjectScotland, said: “At ProjectScotland we believe that young people have the talent to transform their lives and the communities around them. All they need is the right support to help that happen.

“Through UNBREAKABLE, our aim is to raise £100,000, with every penny going towards helping young people in Scotland get on in life.

“From cycling 100km almost every day to climbing a Munro and open water swimming in beautiful Loch Lomond, UNBREAKABLE will test applicants’ endurance, grit and mental determination.

“There’s no denying that this is an extreme challenge, which is why we’ve named it UNBREAKABLE.

“And just to keep it interesting, we’re throwing in some archery, high wires and grass sledging – this is going to be tough so wimps need not apply.”

Given the magnitude of the challenge, training and preparation is essential for applicants. To help in the preparation ProjectScotland has partnered with Olympic athlete David Carry to host an outdoor swimming and water skills masterclass on June 13.

David said: “UNBREAKABLE will be no mean feat.  It will be long, tough and punishing and I am excited to be supporting the event.”

UNBREAKABLE will take care of participants’ support needs along the way so all they need to focus on is the challenge ahead.

The daily route is:

DAY 1: Edinburgh to Dumfries & Galloway 161km

DAY 2: Dumfries & Galloway to Irvine 122km

DAY 3: Irvine to Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park 121km

DAY 4: Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park to Fort William 164km

DAY 5: Fort William to Glencoe (via Arisaig) 131km

DAY 6: Glencoe to Buachaille Etive Beag, back to Glencoe 23km

DAY 7: Glencoe to Aberfoyle 122km

DAY 8: Aberfoyle to Edinburgh 92km

With only 50 places available, interested applicants should visit www.unbreakableevent.org.uk  to register. The cost is £1000, which includes everything you will need for the eight-day challenge. Minimum fundraising is £2000.
